Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant specializing in supporting students with challenging behaviors, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in cultivating a supportive and nurturing environment for students. Responsibilities will encompass:

1-1 Support: Offering dedicated 1-1 assistance to a child with Autism who is nonverbal and situated higher on the spectrum. Proficiency in effective and compassionate communication, including alternative communication methods like the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), will be pivotal in fostering the student’s growth and development.

Collaborative Planning: Collaborating closely with seasoned classroom educators to devise and execute individualized support plans tailored to the distinctive needs of Key Stage 2 students with special educational needs. Insights and proficiency in addressing challenging behaviors will be invaluable in ensuring each student receives tailored support to thrive.

Inclusive Learning Environment: Cultivating an inclusive and supportive learning ambiance that prioritizes the social and emotional well-being of every student. Kindness, patience, and empathy will help nurture a sense of belonging and confidence among students, empowering them to fully engage in their educational journey.

Engaging Activities: Actively involving students in captivating classroom activities crafted to enrich their learning journey. Creativity and enthusiasm will inspire students to actively participate and develop a genuine love for learning.

Partnership Building: Establishing robust partnerships with parents, guardians, and fellow professionals to foster a holistic and collaborative approach to each student’s development. Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills will facilitate effective collaboration and support student progress both within the school environment and at home.

Ideal Candidate Qualities:

We are looking for candidates who possess:

Specialized Expertise: Proven experience and expertise in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, including knowledge of best practices and interventions. Specialized training or qualifications in ASD are highly desirable.

Compassion and Empathy: Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach towards students with ASD, with a genuine passion for making a difference in their lives. Your ability to understand and respond to the individual needs of students will be key to their success.

Efficiency and Care: Ability to work efficiently and with great care, ensuring the well-being and safety of students at all times. Your attention to detail and commitment to providing high-quality support will contribute to a positive learning environment.
