Are you an enthusiastic and caring teaching assistant with a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a friendly primary school in Wood Green, London, as an SEN Teaching Assistant.

Role Description:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a spirited Year 4 boy who has ASD. While he does not exhibit challenging behavior, he is highly energetic and requires assistance with transitions, emotional regulation, and self-expression. Your role will involve providing one-on-one support, helping him navigate the school day, and fostering his positive engagement in the learning process.

Key Responsibilities:

Transition Support: Assist the student during transitions between activities and classes, ensuring a smooth shift in focus and attention.
Emotional Regulation: Help the student identify and manage his emotions constructively, providing strategies for self-regulation.
Communication: Encourage effective self-expression through various means, such as verbal communication, visuals, or alternative communication methods.
Engagement: Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, encouraging the student’s active participation and enthusiasm for learning.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and parents to develop customized strategies and support plans.
Record Keeping: Maintain records of the student’s progress and communicate any noteworthy observations to relevant stakeholders.

Requirements:

Prior experience working with children with ASD or similar special educational needs.
A patient and energetic approach to engage and support an active learner.
Strong communication skills to facilitate effective expression and understanding.
Relevant qualifications or training in special education or SEN support (desirable).
